Personal Finance Software
December 21st, 2007
Dear LazyWeb,
I could really use some personal finance software, but I’m really picky. I’d like a GPL-ish Web Application securely hosted on my home Debian server so I could access it from everywhere. It wouldn’t need a huge feature set.
I suppose I’m after a lightweight version of Quicken, except with the ability to work on my data wherever there’s a web browser.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave

In my past bouts of research on this general topic, I’ve always come up with the impression that you don’t want to be too picky about personal finance software, because it pretty much all sucks, even with nameless well established standalone apps. I wouldn’t get my hopes up if I were you.
I intend to get MoneyDance at some point, because it seems to be pretty good. But it doesn’t fit most of your requirements.
I’ve started to see some indications of various online services for this kinda thing (like http://www.wesabe.com/, and at least a half dozen others), though nothing that can be self-hosted. I haven’t tried any myself.

Hmm. Perhaps I don’t need self hosting. I may give Wesabe a try this weekend, to see if it works.
Thanks!
