U-verse

When did AT&T decide that the best way to advertise new product offerings is by going door to door? Like Mormons do? It’s really annoying. I know they have my mailing information. One of these days I’m going to have to learn to recognize the neighbors when looking through my peephole, so I don’t have to answer the door when I know it’s bunk.
Anyway…
Apparently they’re wiring the neighborhood with fiber, and offering package deals for TV, internet, and phone. This is cool. However, the subcontractor they sent to tell me all about it didn’t really know the details of the service, or have a clear grasp on all those ‘internet’ terms, or even the hardware they’d need to install.
I don’t think he was deliberately lying to me, but he was pretty confused. According to him, “a 1.5 Mbps connection can download a whole cd, in like ten seconds.” Nor could he describe how much space/equipment the installation would take, or give me stand alone pricing on internet, without bundled TV.
I only deal with door to door people who can discuss the product they’re trying to sell. Unfortunately, this means that I am more likely to sign up with the Latter Day Saints than the U-verse guys.

basically Uverse is cable to the curb, you’ll have a router (2wire wireless) and if you so choose, a tv converter box.
the internet comes in 1.5, 3, 6, and 10 Mbps speeds
1.5 Mbps is aprox $25 (without any TV)..
all in all not bad service.

The point of this post was, “I hate door to door salesmen who can’t be bothered to know anything about their product.” Not, “Please google a technology product for me.” I’m still quite capable of using the internet to find out about stuff.
Wait.
Did you recently become a door to door U-verse guy? Are you trying to redeem the honor of your clan?

Heh, it’s funny that AT&T have gone door to door with U-verse. I write software for the device they use for installation verification and troubleshooting on that service, so I’m familiar with the technology.
The description “it’s basically cable to the curb” is not even slightly accurate, unless that poster is using some sort of simile structure with which I am unfamiliar. :P

I misspoke.. I meant fiber optic. but yes one of the things I have been amazed at is the prolific attempts to get me to sign up for more stuff via U-Verse. They want you to use it, and then when you do, use it more.
