This will end in fire
March 2nd, 2009
So, I’ve never typed 'apt-get dist-upgrade'into a debian machine’s prompt without the entire thing ending badly.
Tonight is no exception. For some reason, the ‘configuring libc6′ system crashes out with some odd errors while installing lib6_2.7-18_i386.deb . The error messages want me to change my apt sources, but it seems to be asking me to change them to what they already are?
This wouldn’t be so worrisome, except that the installation has already removed the old kernel version, and I think the machine is currently in a non-bootable state.
I’m reinstalling the machine for two reasons. I want to do some hacking on Armagetron under linux, on this box, and I’m trying to distract myself from part of a job interview I had today. Ever had a programmer with 30+ years experience grill you? It is humbling.
(Update: Boom. I’ve got a grub prompt, and some gnashed teeth. Time to download an ubuntu install disk.)
